WELCOME!
The Liberty Township Zoning Department is available to assist you in meeting the zoning requirements set forth in the Liberty Township Zoning Resolution adopted March 2002 (Revised May 19, 2003, January 15, 2004, September 2, 2004, December 1, 2004, May 19, 2005, August 18, 2005, September 15, 2005, and January 4, 2007).  Effective zoning practices protect property values and contribute to a community's quality of life. When planning any type of construction, always consider whether a Zoning Certificate is required.

Zoning Certificates are necessary for the following projects. This is a partial list. Please contact the Zoning Department if you are unsure if your project requires a permit.

  • New residential construction
  • New commercial construction
  • Building addition
  • Building remodeling (including basement finishes)
  • Pools (above and inground)
  • Garage (attached or detached)
  • Shed or storage building
  • Pole barn
  • Fence
  • Gazebo
  • Deck
  • Retaining wall (3' in height and over)
  • Sign (ground, wall, temporary)
  • Home Occupation

The Zoning Department processes applications for zoning certificates from developers, builders, contractors, and homeowners.  With the exclusion of fences and accessory structures under 200 square feet, all applications that come through the Liberty Township Zoning Department, must then be taken to the Butler County Department of Building and Zoning by the applicant for further issuing of permits.  The turnover rate for Liberty Township Zoning Certificates for residential uses is typically three business days.
