Smoke Detectors -
A Message from the Chief
*Smoke Detectors Save Lives*  It is recommended that smoke detectors be installed on every floor of your home.  Detectors in every bedroom will provide an added protection.  Change the batteries every 6 months.  A good way to remember is to change the smoke detector battery when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.

Fire Extinguishers - A portable fire extinguisher can put out a small fire or it can contain it until the fire department arrives.

Only fight a fire when:
 - Everyone has left or is leaving the building.
 - The fire department has been or is being called.
 - The fire is small and confined to the area it started.
 - You can fight the fire with your back to an escape route.
 - Your extinguisher is rated for the type of fire that you have.
 - You know that you can operate the extinguisher effectively.

If you have the slightest doubt about whether or not to fight the fire, DON'T.  Instead get out and close the door behind you.

Kids Remember
Cool a burn with water
If your clothes catch fire, STOP, DROP and ROLL.
Don't play with matches or lighters.
Have a fire escape plan with two ways out.
Have a designated meeting place in case of fire.
Once you get out of a fire, don't ever go back in.
Practice home fire drills.
